This was a particular challenging project for a client we had previously built a studio and office barn for. They had a lovely house but the kitchen was a bit dark and not well connected to the other main areas of the house. The difficulty lay in the shape of the outside of the house where the kitchen extension would ideally go. Part of the house was two storey with areas of roof coming down to first floor height and the new extension needed to fit into an ‘L’ shaped section toboot.
With some careful design input we managed to design a structural frame with a generous vaulted roof section for the kitchen extending out to add a dining/living area with double doors out to the garden and a fixed glazed gable providing much needed light. It has transformed the way the clients enjoy the house and made the kitchen a pleasure to be in and entertain from. They said it has literally become ‘the heart of the house’.
