About Us

Why we’re different

We’re a little different from most of the ‘oak-framed’ businesses that you’ll find online. We’re a family-run business with over 30 years’ experience, and we offer more than just a range of standard oak frames. We design your building to meet your needs, rather than insisting that you take an off-the-peg design.

If all you want is an oak frame, we can definitely help you. But if what you’re looking for is a company that can take ownership of a complete oak building project from start to finish – taking away all the headaches, then you’ve come to the right place.

We take care of everything

Our services include everything you need: producing designs; managing planning applications; production of the frame itself and erection of the building from groundworks to roofing, glazing and electrics.

In fact, if you’re not quite sure what you want yet, get in touch and we’ll be more than happy to help you develop your ideas. The chances are that we’ve already made what you’re looking for at some point in the past.

Building in oak since 1994

Our early work was heavily focused on renovating traditional oak buildings, which gave us a thorough grounding in the techniques that carpenters have used to construct oak buildings that have withstood the test of time.

We continue to use those traditional ways today, including the use of sawn green oak and centuries-old jointing methods. We fully expect the timber frames that we put up today to last a hundred years or more.

Building sustainably

Of course, oak itself is the original sustainable building material. We use almost exclusively English oak, which is prepared for us at a Wiltshire sawmill. We employ local people and carefully process our waste to minimise landfill, while we use any timber waste for fuel.

Our workshop and offices are in rural West Berkshire, just south of Newbury. While we don’t have a showroom, you’re more than welcome to visit us by appointment. Some of our customers like to see their project during the framing stage in the workshop. If we’re preparing a quote for you, we will typically come to see you on site.
