Technical Info: Green Oak

Green' oak is not literally green in colour. The expression refers to the timber being sawn fresh from the tree without going through either the kiln or air-drying processes that are necessary for the manufacture of timber doors and windows.

Fresh-sawn timber is easier to cut and shape and the resulting frame dries after construction, drawing joints tighter and taking on the familiar appearance and tone that has come to be associated with traditional timber-framed buildings.
